In the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup in Sharjah on Saturday (September 3), Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by four wickets and 5 balls to spare.
Afghanistan scored 175 for 6 against Sri Lanka after being put to bat. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Afghanistan's opener and wicketkeeper batsman, top-scored for the team with a 45-ball 84, and Ibrahim Zadran added 40. Maheesh Theekshana and Asitha Fernando each took one wicket for Sri Lanka, while Dilshan Madushanka took two.
Sri Lanka chased down the target of 176 with five balls to spare with useful contributions from Kushal Mendis (36), Pathum Nissanka (35), Danushka Gunathilaka (33) and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (31). For Afghanistan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Naveen-ul-Haq took two wickets each.
Earlier, Afghanistan had stunned five-time champion Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament by an incredible eight wickets. Afghanistan won two dominating matches over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to take first place in Group B. Sri Lanka did well to come back and beat Afghanistan in Super 4 match.
