The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 matches will be held at eight locations in India: Delhi, Vadodara, Guwahati, Lahli, Lucknow, Mulapadu, Sultanpur, and Mangalagiri. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will conduct the knockout games.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was first presented in 2006-07. The most successful teams in the competition's history have been Baroda, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Each of the four teams has won two championships. With 2215 runs, Baroda's Kedar Devdhar holds the record for most runs scored in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With 85 wickets, Gujarat's leg-spinner Piyush Chawla is the leading wicket-taker.
This year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy includes 38 teams. All of the teams have been divided into six groups by the organizer. Five of them are top groups, with the plate group being the last. Six teams are in each of the groups, while the remaining eight teams are in the plate group.
After the group stage, there will be three pre-quarterfinals and four quarterfinals. The winners of the quarterfinals will progress to the semifinals, where the two winning semi-finalists will fight in the final to determine the champion.
