India was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2022 after losing to England at the Adelaide Oval in the second semi-final by 10 wickets.
On Thursday, November 10, at the Adelaide Oval, England defeated India by ten wickets in the second semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Men in Blue came up well short of what should have been a commanding total due to their inability to capitalize during powerplay overs and some tight bowling efforts from the English bowlers.
The opening pair of captain Jos Buttler and Alex Hales stole the game away from India in the second innings thanks to their incredible power-hitting, despite the Indian bowlers' best efforts to put pressure on the English batters. The majority of their runs were scored in the first six overs, and after the middle-order combination was well established, things became challenging for India.
The bowlers utterly failed to deliver on the crucial day, failing to even claim a single wicket as England completed the task with four overs remaining.
Batting first, Rohit Sharma made a laborious 27 runs off 28 balls but lost KL Rahul early. At the other end, Virat Kohli clung on tightly as the English bowlers produced quality deliveries. After the in-form Suryakumar Yadav was cheaply dismissed, Virat and Hardik put up a 61-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Hardik took over as the anchor and struck a half-century in just 29 balls after Kohli got out after scoring 50 runs off 40 balls. His 33-ball 63 pushed India's total to a respectable 168/6.
The Indian bowlers were given the responsibility of taking quick wickets with the new ball, but the explosive opening pair of captain Jos Buttler and Alex Hales overcame that advantage by putting everything they had into the game from the very beginning.
The pair troubled the Indian bowlers while scoring half centuries. They added an unbeaten 170-run opening stand. Hales scored 86* off 47 deliveries, while Buttler scored 80 runs off 49 balls.
England will now face Pakistan for the final match at the MCG on Sunday, November 13.
