England defeated Sri Lanka in their last group stage match on November 5 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), advancing to the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals (Saturday). England encountered several difficulties when chasing 142 to win, but they ultimately crossed the finish line.
Pathum Nissanka, the team's opening batsman, finished an outstanding fifty with the bat despite the wickets continuing to fall all around him, ensuring that his team passed the 140-run threshold in their allotted 20 overs. His innings, though, was in vain because Sri Lanka lost the game by four wickets.
With England winning their final group stage encounter of the T20 World Cup, they along with the New Zealand side are now through to the semi-final matches of the competition. Australia, the defending champs, has now been eliminated from the competition.
England (Playing XI): Alex Hales, Jos Buttler (c/wk), Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood
