Real Sociedad defeated Almeria 1-0 at home to move one step closer to qualifying for the Champions League. Takefusa Kubo scored the game's lone goal in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time with a stunning shot into the top corner of the goal.
Almeria was down to 10 men only 10 minutes later after a rough challenge from Luis Suarez on Robin Le Normand. Although Almeria was unable to equalise in the second half, their tenacity gave hope that they could still avoid relegation.
Takefusa Kubo's first-half goal gives Imanol Alguacil's fourth-placed Real Sociedad an eight-point lead over fifth-place Villarreal, who plays Cadiz on Wednesday. Real Sociedad, who haven't participated in Europe's top competition since the 2013–14 campaign, can collect two more points or qualify if Villarreal loses one of their last three games.
