Tamim Iqbal will miss Bangladesh's two-match Test series against Pakistan, which began later this month, due to a thumb injury. He had a fracture in his left thumb, which he had already injured during an Everest Premier League match in Kathmandu last month, per an X-ray new report on Sunday.
In the last four weeks, Tamim has completed his thumb treatment and has begun to bat against fast bowling at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. In the National Cricket League's fifth round, which began today, he was scheduled to play for Chattogram Division. However, the ongoing swelling and pain led to a second inspection, which showed that the fracture had not healed.
"My thumb remained swollen ignoring the fact that the fracture had almost healed," Tamim said. "As a result, we got another X-ray, which showed a fracture." There were probably two, but they didn't show up in the first scan. The finger has re-entered the gap. I'm unable to move it. The entire process must be restarted."
Tamim last played for Bangladesh in an ODI series against Zimbabwe in July before being injured for the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury. He later dropped out of the tournament to provide the other openers a chance to compete.
Bangladesh will play Pakistan in three Twenty20 Internationals beginning on 19th November, Friday in Dhaka, before the two-match Test series begins on November 26 in Chattogram. The second Test will begin on December 4 in Dhaka. This is Bangladesh's second series in the second cycle of the World Test Championship.
Tamim will now prepare for Bangladesh's January tour of New Zealand, which will include two Tests. Tamim's next ODIs, which he will captain, is against Afghanistan in February next year 2022.
