A 15-member roster has been named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the forthcoming Asia Cup, which gets underway on August 27. Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, is back in action as he rejoins the blues after a layoff; his most recent international encounter was a white-ball series match against England in July. All-format captain Rohit Sharma will serve as the team's captain, with KL Rahul serving as his deputy. Due to injuries, Jasprit Bumrah (back) and Harshal Patel (side strain) are both out of the game.
While Kohli missed the just wrapped West Indies tour due to rest, the 33-year-old is back in the running for the Asia Cup, and it will be interesting to see if he can end this rough phase of his career. The Asia Cup will be his first international outing after July 17, 2022. However, India's first game will take place on August 28 when they take on Pakistan, their bitter rivals.
Following Covid-19, KL Rahul has also returned to the team after missing a significant amount of recent games due to a groin injury. Due to management's desire for Rahul to avoid putting undue strain on his body, he received rest during the West Indies series. After the Indian Premier League, Rahul has notably not played any cricket.
