Leicester midfielder James Maddison is close to be acquired by Tottenham for £40 million. Maddison, 26, who has three England caps and assisted the Foxes in winning the 2021 FA Cup, will have a medical at Spurs on Wednesday. Since moving from Norwich to Leicester in 2018 for a reported £20 million transfer fee, he has made 203 appearances.
Maddison scored 10 goals Premier League last season but he was unable to keep his team from being relegated. His ingenuity will be a welcome addition to a Spurs team that has been lacking a playmaker since the departure of Christian Eriksen in 2020. Overall, he scored 55 goals and contributed 41 assists for the Foxes.
Newcastle has made attempts to sign Maddison in the past, but they now seem to be focusing on Sandro Tonali of AC Milan. Since the appointment of new manager Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham has added Italian custodian Guglielmo Vicario from Serie A club Empoli and has made Sweden midfielder Dejan Kulusevski's loan move from Juventus permanent.
