Virat Kohli will play in the One-Day Internationals against South Africa next month, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Many board members, including a few of the Members, have told that they are unsure of any request from India's Test captain to be rejected from the ODIs. On January 19, the first of three matches in the three-match series will begin.
Reports of Virat missing the ODIs are incorrect, BCCI member said, "He is a fully dedicated cricketer and there is no issue about his presence."
The reports assumed a new meaning that Due to the recent change of captain in ODIs, Kohli was unhappy at being moved from the senior position in the 50-over format. Rohit Sharma, who had already been named captain of the Twenty20 team, has now been confirmed as the ODI captain as well.
There is no news upon whether the Members of the BCCI or selection committee had contacted Kohli, but BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was in Mumbai for the last two days. Kohli is likely to provide clarification on Wednesday (December 15), when the BCCI will conduct its annual pre-tour media conference.
Meanwhile, it's unknown whether Rohit will be able to fulfill his role as captain in the One-Day Internationals. Rohit, who was forced to step down from the Test series after experiencing a 'left hamstring injury during a recent training session in Mumbai, is being observed by BCCI physios, according to sources.
To choose the squad for the ODI series against South Africa, the selection committee is expected to meet only after the finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament on December 26.
