As they compete for points, cash prizes, and trophies on the ATP Challenger Tour, players have a monthly theme of "planes, trains, and cars." The players continue toward a common objective—becoming the next professional tennis star—despite the often taxing travel schedule.
Otto Virtanen of Finland recently completed a lengthy trip that saw him win 10 matches in 11 days while collecting two Challenger titles (singles & doubles). The 21-year-old left for the Bergamo Challenger shortly after winning the Brest Challenger doubles title (with Viktor Durasovic) in October. There, he made it past qualifying to earn his first Challenger singles title.
With Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner, and Matteo Berrettini as the last three champions in Bergamo, Virtanen is now ranked at a career-high No. 174 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings.
