Wanindu Hasaranga, a spin all-rounder, has been ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023, which is disappointing news for Sri Lanka.
Hasaranga's hamstring tear will reportedly prevent him from competing in the prestigious event in India. Hasaranga's replacement must be announced by Sri Lanka Cricket within the next four days because the final World Cup squads must be submitted by September 28.
Due to the same injury, Hasaranga previously missed out on the just finished Asia Cup. He led the B Kandy Love side in the Lanka Premier League, which was the last time anyone saw him in action.
Wanindu Hasaranga was in excellent form and had remarkable all-around skills throughout the recently finished Lanka Premier League. He finished with 279 runs, which made him the tournament's leading run scorer. He also had 19 wickets, which made him the leading wicket-taker.
Recently, Sri Lanka suffered another blow with spinner Maheesh Theekshana getting injured during the Asia Cup. However, it seems that he will recover in time for the World Cup and will be able to participate in the event.
The much awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is set to get underway in India on October 5. Sri Lanka will play their opening match against South Africa on October 7.
