Expressing his pleasure after getting about 100 cricket kits from Indian President Ram Nath Kovind as a goodwill gesture, Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) president Wilfred Billy Heaven paid his gratitude to the Indian President and also said that it is a proud moment for his people. Wilfred also emphasized that Jamaica Cricket earns the highest profit whenever India comes to West Indies and plays at the Sabina Park.
“Whenever India plays any match in the Caribbean, a lot of people see those matches between India and West Indies. We make the most money whenever Team India comes here to play and it’s our biggest income stream at Cricket West Indies” Heaven was quoted by Hindustan Times.
“This is a proud moment, for me personally and for the cricket fraternity in Jamaica. As Jamaica Cricket Association, we are indeed happy that this gift is coming from India, it’s mega cricket in the world. We will be getting 100 kits and that’s a lot. It has been planned that half of them will be given to the high schools,” he added.
The Jamaica Cricket president further said that these sorts of exchanges will only strengthen the bond between the two cricketing nations. He added that several young cricketers in the West Indies dream to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) just like Jamaican superstars Chris Gayle and Andre Russell. Both Gayle and Russell have been participating in the IPL for a very long time and have made their legacy in the tournament.
