Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst will join Manchester United on a season-long loan. The 30-year-old Burnley forward, who played for Besiktas for the first part of the season, is now travelling to Manchester for a medical before the transfer can be finalised.
His loan at the Turkish club will end after an agreement has been finalised. In 16 league games with Besiktas, Weghorst led the team with eight goals and four assists. On January 7, his most recent goal helped Besiktas defeat Kasimpasa 2-1, and after the game, he appeared to wave goodbye to the team's supporters.
In the Netherlands' World Cup quarterfinal match against Argentina last month, Weghorst also scored two late goals for his country. In the subsequent penalty shootout, which Argentina won, he also scored. Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, will now be able to sign a fellow Dutchman to meet the squad's need for a striker.
