Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz squared off in the 15th game of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The table-toppers, Mumbai Indians, were unbeaten going into the game, whereas UP Warriorz had lost their previous game against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Against UPW's persistent bowling attack, Mumbai Indians appeared helpless for the first time in the league. While Sophie Ecclestone of UP wrecked havoc by claiming three wickets while conceding only 15 runs, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI were dismissed for 127. This was MI’s first defeat of the season as their unbeaten run in the tournament has finally come to an end.
Chasing 128, UPW finished with 129/5 n 19.3 overs as Ecclestone sealed the win by six. UP Warriorz lost three wickets quickly in their chase though with Hayley Matthews, Issy Wong and Nat Sciver-Brunt picking up a wicket each. Tahlia McGrath and Grace Harris scored 38 and 39 respectively, to help Warriorz cruise past Mumbai.
