On March 8 at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore played in the sixth game of the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023. Both teams were eager to earn their first victory after struggling in their opening two games of the competition.
After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Gujarat Giants amassed a staggering 201/7 with the help of earlier spectacular innings from Sophia Dunkley and Harleen Deol.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team, led by Smriti Mandhana, suffered their third straight loss on Wednesday as they lost to Gujarat Giants by 11 runs. RCB got off to a fast start while chasing a challenging 202 but kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Heather Knight's 30* off just 11 balls and Sophie Devine's 66 off 45 balls kept RCB's hopes alive, but Ashleigh Gardner's clinical performance was what allowed Gujarat to maintain control. In her four overs, she got three wickets while giving up 31 runs.
