On Thursday, Yannick Hanfmann secured one of his biggest victories of his career despite the rain. Dominic Thiem, the former World No. 3, was shocked by the German, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The 30-year-old is playing in his second Austrian ATP 250 semifinal and fourth overall on the ATP Tour.
Play in the third set was stopped due to rain when it was 5-4 and Thiem was about to serve to win the set. After two hours and 28 minutes, Hanfmann won by taking advantage of some unforced errors made by the 17-time tour-level champion.
The competition at Kitzbühel turned out to be Hanfmann's most prosperous one. He qualified for the event in 2020 and advanced to the final before falling to Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic.
