Five Indian cricketers, including skipper Yash Dhull and vice-captain Shaik Rasheed, who was infected with Covid-19, have recovered and will participate in the Under-19 World Cup quarter-final against Bangladesh on Saturday.
Before the Ireland game, Dhull, Rasheed, Sidharth Yadav, Aaradhya Yadav, and Manav Parakh all tested positive for Covid-19, and India struggled to field a playing eleven.
India's squad has been boosted by the availability of these five previously positive players. Dhull and Rasheed are likely to join a batting lineup that averages almost 315 runs per innings, while Siddarth and Aaradhya Manav are also a contender for a spot in the playing XI.
All-rounder Nishant Sindhu will miss the quarter-final against Bangladesh after testing positive for Covid-19.
In Dhull's absence, Sindhu was given the captaincy for two league games. So far, he's shown to be a useful left-arm spinner, taking four wickets at an average of 14.25 and a 2.75 economy rate.
Players who test positive at the tournament are expected to be quarantined for at least seven days, which means Sindhu will be unavailable for India's semi-final against Pakistan or Australia on Wednesday if India beats Bangladesh.
India currently has a pool of 21 players from which to choose. Sixteen of the core squad's 17 members are still available for selection, as are the five traveling reserves who were sent to the Caribbean after the squad's first Covid-19 breakout.
