In the Spanish Super Cup final, Barcelona defeated rival Real Madrid with ease, giving Xavi his first trophy as the team's manager. The 18-year-old Gavi scored off Robert Lewandowski's assist to give the La Liga leaders the lead in Saudi Arabia. Just before halftime, Lewandowski scored after finishing off Gavi's feed.
Pedri was assisted by Gavi again in the second half before Karim Benzema scored a late consolation. The Frenchman's late goal wasn't much of a comfort for Real Madrid, who were consistently in second place. In fact, Thibaut Courtois made a few astute saves to save Barcelona from winning by a wider margin.
Real Madrid easily won the first El Clasico matchup of the season between these two teams back in October, 3-1. However, Barcelona has only grown stronger since then and is presently leading La Liga, three points ahead of Real. This victory also extended Barcelona's unbeaten streak across all competitions to nine games.
