On Saturday, the Netherlands defeated the United States in singles matches thanks to victories from Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor. With a perfect 3-0 record, the Netherlands claimed the top spot in Group D.
In Glasgow, van de Zandschulp defeated World No. 13 Taylor Fritz with a score of 6-4, 7-6(3) to record his third singles victory in as many matches. The Dutch player broke to start set two in the ninth game of the first set before serving it out and breaking again. In the second, Fritz would tie the score, but his attempt at a comeback failed in the tie-break.
After Griekspoor defeated Tommy Paul in the opening match of Saturday's action, 7-5, 7-6(3), the 26-year-triumph old's sealed the tie for the Netherlands. Griekspoor won two singles matches out of three contests in Group D. Team USA gained their first point in the dead doubles match as Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock defeated Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop by scores of 4-6, 7-6(3), and 6-4.
With a 2-1 record, good for second place in the group despite the loss, the United States advanced to the quarterfinal round.
