India easily won the final match against England by an innings and 25 runs and reached the final of the world test championship. Both Axar Patel & Ravi Ashwin took 5 wicket haul for the final time in the tour. Earlier, Rishabh pant scored a brilliant 100 to set the tone of the match.
Earlier in the morning, Washington Sundar looked in great form and scored 96 not out before eventually, he ran out of partners as the last three Indian wickets fell in just 5 balls. Nevertheless, he was applauded by his teammates and fans for his great knock under pressure.
India extended its lead from 89 overnight to 160 runs which almost made it impossible for England to save the match. Coming to England-s 2nd innings, they managed to survive three overs before lunch. But, after lunch, the Indian team caused havoc to their batting line-up as they took 6 wickets for 65 runs. Dan Lawrence did show some resistance but he didn't find partners to support from the other end. Eventually, England was bundled out for 135 giving India an innings and 25 runs win.
Overall, Ashwin & Axar Patel claimed 59 wickets among themselves at an average of 14.71 and 10.59 to set up a convincing series win against England. The first 90 minutes of the 3rd-day play was without any kind of drama as Patel & Sundar extended the eighth-wicket partnership to 106 runs. Both of them made their highest test score but suddenly things changed.
The eight-wicket partnership eventually broke as Patel went out of his crease to take a run that didn't exist. He dived but eventually, he got out. After this, Ishant Sharma was wrapped on the pads and was adjudged LBW. Three balls later, Ben stokes bowled Md Siraj leaving Sundar short of 4 runs from his first century.
In the 2nd innings, Zak Crawley was the first to depart apart bring caught at slips. Soon, Jonny Bairstow went to the dressing room without troubling the scorers after getting caught at leg slip for 0.
Ollie Pope was looking troubled right from the start and eventually got stumped. After this, Ben stokes and Root departed as well. Lawrence and ben Foakes did show some resistance but the latter was dismissed soon by Patel.
Finally, the rest of the wickets fell soon which confirmed India's participation at the World test championship to be held against New Zealand.
