Legendary West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been appointed by England as their new T20 World Cup 2024 consultant. Notably, the Three Lions lost the five-match T20I series against the West Indies 3-2 and were remarkably disappointing in the just finished ODI World Cup.
As Pollard is more familiar with the circumstances in the Caribbean, the ECB chose to incorporate him in the mix in an effort to improve the situation and create better outcomes in the competition.
Pollard is the batting coach of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League in addition to playing for MI New York, MI Emirates, and a number of other clubs. As a result, Pollard will be able to participate in the team only during the big event, which is scheduled to start in early June, rather than being able to join full-time.
Rob Key, the head coach of England, recently took responsibility for his lack of use of a local during their dismal performance in the ODI World Cup in India. The 44-year-old therefore didn't waste any time before the T20 World Cup, as the ECB is expected to make the announcement prior to the series against Pakistan in May. However, due to his commitments with Mumbai Indians, the all-rounder is likely to join the squad for the first time during the mega tournament.
