The Blues overcame a deficit to defeat Sevilla in their final Champions League group match with a goal from seventeen-year-old Rico Lewis in his full Manchester City debut. Rafa Mir's first-half header gave City the lead, but seven minutes into the second half, Lewis strode on to a cross from Julian Alvarez and blasted a shot past Yassine Bounou to give City the lead. Lewis will never forget that particular moment, and it was beautiful to see the delight on his face as he rejoiced.
However, if the teenage fullback needed a reminder of the consistent quality needed to succeed at City, he received it from a fantastic curling ball from replacement Kevin de Bruyne for the Blues' second goal, which sailed around the back of the Sevilla defence and sent Alvarez sprinting free. Seven minutes before the end, Riyad Mahrez completed the scoring.
No one will look forward to play against City when the tournament begins in February, especially with prolific forward Erling Haaland watching from the stands and Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips about to make their injury comebacks.
