Emma Raducanu won 6-4, 6-2 over American qualifier Louisa Chirico in the first round of the Citi Open on Tuesday night as she made a triumphant return to the North American summer hardcourt tour that had given her Grand Slam glory the previous year.
In the American capital of Washington D.C., reigning US Open champion Raducanu, the No. 2 seed from Great Britain, eliminated World No. 216 Chirico and advanced to the second round in 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Camila Osorio of Colombia will now be Raducanu's opponent in the second round. By defeating former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin earlier on Tuesday, Osorio ended her five-match losing run.
