The Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) offered plenty of tennis entertainment for fans to consume in 2020, amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The hurried format was tested out behind closed doors in Nice, France over a five-week period by competitors like Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Matteo Berrettini.
The terms and innovations included eight-minute quarters, player nicknames, in-game interviews, no second serves, a loose code of conduct, sudden death tiebreakers, and bonus cards. After staging three additional editions in 2020 and 2021 the organisers utilised this year to make preparations for a more ambitious project. UTS plans to revive its innovative approach to the sport in 2023 with a global four-event series.
