Virat Kohli vs Babar Azam – the comparison never seems to end. Indian skipper Virat Kohli has established himself as one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era, while Babar Azam too is on the way to greatness. Several cricket experts have given their opinion on the debate and the latest to join the bandwagon is the legendary pacer, Wasim Akram. Akram feels it’s unfair to compare Babar Azam with Virat Kohli at the moment as Kohli is one of the greats of the game.
However, he added that Babar is heading towards where Kohli is right now. Akram also said that Kohli has been the captain of the side for a long time now and Babar has just started his leadership stint thus he has a lot to prove before being compared to Kohli.
“Virat Kohli is Virat Kohli. He has dominated world cricket, scored all those runs over these years. He has led India. Babar Azam has started captaining Pakistan only now. But as far his technique is concerned, is very good to watch and very consistent in all formats,” Akram said while speaking on Salaam Cricket.
“He is learning his captaincy, he is a quick learner. So, it’s unfair to compare those two now. But Babar is definitely heading towards the position where Virat Kohli is now,” he added.
Meanwhile, the two players will be in action on October 24 in Dubai when India and Pakistan lock horns in their 20-20 World Cup opener. Babar Azam will be leading Pakistan in a world event for the first time and will be keen to end Pakistan’s losing streak against India. However, India have made a statement by crushing England and Australia in the warm-up games thus it won’t be the easiest task. Several experts have backed India as favourites but have not counted out Pakistan either.
