A thumb injury has ruled Tamim Iqbal out of Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand.
Debashish Chowdhury, the chief physician for the Bangladesh Cricket Board, confirmed that the opener will not be available for the tour, explaining that he will need a month of rest to recover from the injury he suffered while playing in Nepal's Everest Premier League.
After consulting a physician in England on November 22, Tamim was advised not to take the field for a month.
"He (Tamim) met the physician and they have advised him to take a one-month rest though he won't require any surgery," Debashish Said. "In that case, he's missing the New Zealand tour."
Two Tests between Bangladesh and New Zealand will be part of the World Test Championship 2021-23.
A game between Bangladesh and New Zealand will kick off the new year at the Bay Oval in Tauranga from January 1st to 5th 2022. In the second game, starting on January 9, the teams head south to Christchurch.
