Latest Football Update: Eduardo Camavinga said that Karim Benzema assisted him in acclimating to his new surroundings at Real Madrid following his summer transfer from Stade Rennais.
During a press conference ahead of France's U-21 game, the 18-year-old was asked about his time at Real Madrid. In return, the midfielder thanked the entire team for assisting him with his transition, as mentioned in the latest football transfer update.
Camavinga said:
"I'm very surprised, especially with Benzema, because they are very humble players. Benzema put me at ease straight away. They even started joking with me, even though I don't speak Spanish. Both [Luka] Modric and Benzema gave me a different name. It's a secret, I'm not going to say it, but I am already integrated [into the team]."
"And then we can speak in French [with Benzema]. I sit next to him at the table. He told me that if I needed anything, I should let him know."
Eduardo Camavinga was one of Real Madrid's two summer acquisitions. He came for a price of about -31 million from Rennes. David Alaba, who joined on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, was the other newcomer.
Camavinga also stated that his move to Real Madrid has had no effect on his status on the French U-21 team. He also stated that he intends to continue his growth to join the senior team as soon as possible.
Camavinga expressed his thoughts as follows:
"Regarding the France team, my role with the U21s has not changed at all, I'm still the same player. They will not see me with a magnifying glass because I have signed for Real Madrid. I can continue to contribute my experience to the U21s. But it is clear that my goal is to return to the senior side."
Real Madrid's only other midfield option is Federico Valverde after Martin Odegaard was transferred to Arsenal this summer. Real Madrid recognises the value of having a young talent like Eduardo Camavinga on their team, and have offered him a contract that will keep him at the club until June 2027.
