Matthew Potts will make his debut against New Zealand in the first Lord's Test of the season, which begins on Thursday (June 2). The 23-year-old Durham seamer, who will become England's 704th Test cap, has been selected ahead of Craig Overton and will join a seam attack that includes James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
Potts' England debut follows an outstanding start to the County Championship, where he has 35 wickets in six games. He's also benefited by England's ongoing injury crisis, which has seen a number of fast bowlers miss time, including Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Saqib Mahmood, Olly Stone, Chris Woakes, and Matt Fisher.
Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow will start at No. 5 in Ben Stokes' first-11 as full-time Test captain. Despite scoring 840 runs at an average of 140 this season, in-form Yorkshire hitter Harry Brook will have to wait for his time.
England is currently ranked last in the World Test Championship standings, having won only two of their last 15 Test matches.
