On Sunday, July 31, at Edgbaston in Birmingham, a Group A match of the Commonwealth Games 2022 saw India Women defeat Pakistan Women. Indian bowlers dominated the match and held the opposition to just 99 runs. With 38 balls remaining in the chase, India's star batter Smriti Mandhana moved quickly to lead her team to a decisive eight-wicket victory. The former men's team captain MS Dhoni's record for the most T20I victories by an Indian captain was broken by Harmanpreet Kaur with this victory.
With this win, Harmanpreet Kaur registered her 42nd win as a skipper in the T20 format. She surpassed MS Dhoni to become the Indian captain with the most T20I wins. Notably, the former wicketkeeper-batter registered 41 wins during his tenure.
Kaur has now guided Team India in 71 T20I matches, winning 42, losing 26, with three ending in no-result. Dhoni, who led India to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, was able to win 41 out of 72 games while serving as captain. Virat Kohli, his replacement, led India in 50 T20 international matches, winning 30 and losing only 16. Kohli has a higher winning %, but Kaur has more victories now and is expected to pick up a lot more in the future.
