Temba Bavuma, who was important in the Signals' historic Test series victory over India, will now be looking to lead his side in the upcoming three-match ODI series. Quinton de Kock, who had recently declared his retirement from the longer format after the first Test, was welcomed back into the side by the 31-year-old. The wicketkeeper-batsman has a fantastic record against India at home in South Africa, and he will be looking to continue his fine form.
India may have lost out on their first-ever Test victory on South African ground in Tests, but they'll be trying to get help with a good showing. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will lead the side, and the strong batting lineup includes some match-winners. On the 19th of January, the first One-Day International will be played at Boland Park in Paarl.
Bavuma shared his delight at de Kock's selection in the ODI team following the rather surprise Test retirement but believes the 29-year-old will have to make a huge statement with the bat. He also discussed his thoughts on left-arm seamer Marco Jansen, who had a fantastic debut Test series with 19 wickets.
It's great to see him once more. We all missed him in the Test team, but he has decided to retire from the game's longest format. His decision is respected by us. It's great to have him back. Quinton will have something to prove, and I'm sure he's as pleased as we are to have him join the team." In a press conference, Bavuma stated
"His cricketing abilities and X-factor ability have been observed around the world." Getting him on the white-ball team would be a no." Bavuma spoke about Jansen.
Bavuma stated that he expects the series to be difficult since India would come out firing to make up for their Test series setback.
"This one-day series isn't going to be simple for us." We realize it'll be difficult, especially given the Test series. We'll do everything we can to ensure that we're ready for the task when it arrives." he continued
