The West Indies and Pakistan One-day International (ODI) series, which was set to begin on December 18 in Karachi, has been postponed and rescheduled for June 2022 after 5 new members of the West Indies team tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
Since they landed in Karachi on December 9, five more members of the team have tested positive, making a total of cases to nine.
The PCB and the CWI soon put out a statement announcing that the ODI series has been postponed and rescheduled for early June 2022.
"Rapid Antigen testing was performed on the remaining 15 West Indies players and six-player support people on Thursday morning as part of the PCB COVID-19 Protocols. The test results for all 21 members of the West Indies tour group were negative. As a result, the T20 International (T20I) on Thursday went smoothly "In a statement, PCB said.
"However, it has been decided that the series, which is part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League, will be postponed and rescheduled for early June 2022, taking into account both the teams' health as well as limited funds in the West Indies side for the ODIs," PCB added.
The members of the West Indies team who tested negative after the PCR and fast antigen tests on Wednesday and Thursday would leave Pakistan after the Karachi T20I, according to the statement.
